Renting a property this might be a lesson to you, what to look out for.

Land-lords: some are good some are bad, you be the Judge.

I rented a property Address: 13 Pinewood Avenue, Kardinya Western Australia, my first experience in renting, visiting this property  and meeting the Owners Norman Baker and his Wife, on the day they were there cleaning  they said from the last Tenants, the Home looked ok on the surface apart from the walls were grubby and needed painting, we came to an agreement they would paint the walls after i moved in, i did not see other things that needs fixing or cleaning at this time, as my inspection was short and not in detail, the Owner Norm Baker and his Wife were in the Kitchen, i did not see what was needed to be cleaned.

I gave them a Deposit to secure the Home for rent, and we agreed i could occupy it in one week, and this would give them time to finish what they had to do. At this time i did not read the Rental Agreement, or see the true condition of the Home.

On moving in the first week exposed all the things that needed fixing, THE LIST: water had been leaking into the draws in the cupboard and they would not open as they were made from chip board and were rotten, the same problem in the large bedroom room that had a Cupboard and basin,

The exhaust fan was full of grease and full of dead blowflies, the Shower screen was broken, and the shower was dirty, the walls were dirtier than i thought they were, the heater was smoking into the home this was only noticed in winter, the Lawn was full of burs or prickles i could not walk or lie on the lawn without shoes, refridgeator  would not  freeze or keep the food cool, several light bulbs were blown, the back door would not lock.

They wanted me to sign the rental agreement before they had fixed these problems, and made promises to fix these problems and listed some of them as they were not listed on the agreement, reluctant i signed the agreement, but  the Problems were never fixed the fridge stopped working and i bought my own.

My four years in this Home none of the SHIT was fixed, during that time i had students staying there, usually girls from Asia, as they were clean and non- smokers like myself, they did not drink Alcohol or have party’s and were clean living, they took off there shoes as most Asians do, they only came home and went to their room to study, while i was there i fixed some of the problems exposed when i moved in, and always kept the House clean and tidy.

After being there for four years they gave me notice at a time when the students were having exams, they Norm and Robert Baker had no consideration for these Students, i got an extension through the court to give them time to complete their exams. I moved out earlier than the Students and left the Home Clean and tidy. 

I moved out before the Students as I had another place to stay, the students stayed there to complete their Exams, I asked Robert to come and inspect the Property, he refused to do this before I vacated, when the students moved out they left a few boxes and discarded things they were not taking back to their Country.

The Bakers refused to give me my Bond and the charged me through the court saying i left the House dirty and untidy, they took photos of a few boxes and things discarded by the Students, they took photos of the dirty walls and things they refused to repair or fix that were there when I moved in, i never received  my Bond and lost more than $2000.00
